July 13, 2008 - Canterbury & Dover Sail
We shuttled to the airport and met Carnival reps who guided us to a bus bound for Canterbury. The Christ Church Cathedral is surrounded by historic structures and, of course, the tourist traps.
We had a very informative guide and then ate a fantastic wood fired oven pizza and drove to the dock.

Dover is all that the books and pictures show. A castle is perched on the 'White Cliffs'. Tunnels beneath the castle were used for protection from WWII bombing. Most of the Battle of Britian was fought over the skies of Dover (Kent County).
Our ship is waiting. Boarding is a snap unless I (David) have filed away our passports. Our room is perfect. Level 10 Promenade Deck Starbord side, very close to the bow. Move in and unpack. We endure the 'Muster Drill' wearing life jackets and we are off!
France is visible from the dock (22 miles) and ferry's are every shape and size. The Channel Tunnel is close, but we did not see it.
Dinner in the Golden Pearl at the rear of the ship is perfect with our private table and a view of the ocean.
Settling in, I find the exercise area, walk a mile in 30 minutes and fall into bed at 10:00pm. Tomorrow is a 'Sea Day' . |
