July 12, 2008 - Shakespeare County & Stratford-upon-Avon -

We left the Holiday Inn, after an included hot breakfast and headed to Stratford upon Avon. the town of Stratford is located on the Avon River -makes sense. Driving through the tourist area is always a treat. The earlier, the better.

We witnessed all the costumed characters arriving and not many crowds. The birthplace of Shakespeare and the theatres that were used for productions, have been restored and preserved.

Visitng the Avon River area was interesting. Some British own RV's that are long narrow boats and float from town to town. Completely self contained, they are marvelous floating vacation houses. (rentals are available).

"Save the Swans" provided a diversion as the birds - and ducks - are very prolific - and hungry! Leaving Stratford, we attempted to view Blenham Palace. The price was high and it was raining. Driving back to London, the GPS saved the day. We found a nice small hotel near the airport, turned in the car and settled for the last land night, pre-cruise. Dinner in an English pub was salad and amarvelous fresh potato leek soup. Tomorrow we sail!
